Crossroads’ Movie Night – Friday, May 11

Crossroads Moviegoers,

You are all invited to another movie night at the Roller’s on Friday, May 11 starting at 7pm.

This time we will be watching Get Low.

“Oscar winners Robert Duvall and Sissy Spacek team up to tell the true story of irascible Felix Bush, a backwoods Tennessee loner who planned his funeral in 1938 while he was still around to attend — and enjoy — the proceedings.” Netflix

This is a film that takes faith seriously, has some good acting and directing and should make for a good time together.

Please RSVP to get your tickets. As always, feel free to invite a friend along.

The minimum requested donation is $10/person, but there is a discounted rate of $35 for families of 4+. There will also be a County Fair at which you can bid on delicious homemade goodies and Americana crafts. Plan with your table mates how you want to dress up and which food items you want to enjoy throughout the evening! The theme of the evening is American History, so read up on your American sports, geography, military, and arts & entertainment facts!

We also have the opportunity to enjoy a local band during some of our breaks between trivia rounds – so come prepared to sit back, relax, and enjoy a fun night of fellowship together!

Crossroads Movie Night – Friday, April 27 at 7:00pm

Crossroads Movie Nighters,

John Calvin once wrote, “The invention of the arts, and other things which serve the common use and convenience of life, is a gift of God by no means to be despised, and a faculty worthy of commendation.”

In that spirit I would like to invite you out to another great Crossroads Movie Night. Come and enjoy Equilibrium on Friday the 27th of April. As usual we will meet at the Roller’s home at 7pm.

Equilibrium is rated R for violence, but was suggested as a very good and thought-provoking film. Here is a write-up from www.rottentomatoes.com:

A man who dares to feel finds his life in danger in this cautionary science fiction drama. In the future, after a Third World War has decimated much of the Earth’s population, a new nation known as Libria rises up under the unquestioned leadership of Dupont (Angus MacFadyen). Believing human emotions and their expression were to blame for the failings of past societies, The Father has decreed that all citizens must take a daily dose of Prozia II, a drug which levels out the emotional landscape, and that all forms of creative expression are against the law; violating either regulation can be punished by death. John Preston (Christian Bale) is a Grammaton, an elite law enforcement officer who tracks down and punishes “sense offenders.” One day, Preston accidentally fails to take his Prozia II, and for the first time begins experiencing emotions himself. Preston becomes aware of an underground of rebels who refuse to take their medication and have embraced art and literature, and he finds himself becoming infatuated with one of their number, Mary O’Brian (Emily Watson). Equilibrium is the second feature-length directorial effort from Kurt Wimmer, whose screenwriting credits include The Thomas Crown Affair and Sphere. ~ Mark Deming

Please contact Tim Carroll timcarroll@crossroadspca.net to get your tickets. All are invited and feel free to invite friends and neighbors.
