1. Kingdom Focused Prayer. Have you wondered how a hymn could be used in prayer? Have you considered what the Bible says about what you should say to God?

For answers to these and many other questions prayerfully consider the upcoming class about kingdom focused Prayer!

Ephesians 3:14–19

14 For this reason I bow my knees before the Father, 15f rom whom every family in heaven and on earth is named, 16 that according to the riches of his glory he may grant you to be strengthened with power through his Spirit in your inner being, 17 so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith—that you, being rooted and grounded in love, 18 may have strength to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, 19 and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God. (ESV)

In this passage of Scripture we see the importance of godly love that surpasses knowledge. To obtain this love of Christ we need Christ to dwell in our hearts.
The format of this class will include:

A hymn.

A devotional review of a passage of Holy Scripture.

Discussion of prayer and topics for prayer.

Prayer in smaller groups within the class. (Note: some folks will pray out loud in the small groups and some may prefer to pray silently.)

Prayer is intimacy with our infinite and almighty God. It is our desire that you will set your hearts on this goal of growing in the love of Christ and join us in this opportunity to learn about prayer and to pray together. Join us as we share guidance from God’s Word on prayer and pray boldly and specifically for His kingdom, including the needs of Crossroads.

The Stafford Care Group started a new series on Wednesday, November 4, and everyone is invited. Our topic will be how to answer the questions that non-Christians friends and acquaintances ask us. “How often have you been overwhelmed by an onslaught of tough objections as you attempted to communicate the message of Christianity to your non-Christian friends?” It’s a common experience for all of us. They ask honest, sincere questions and we find ourselves unprepared to answer them. What could have been an opportunity to introduce them to Christ is turned into an awkward experience that leaves them uninformed and us embarrassed.

We will be using the book, I’m Glad You Asked, by Ken Boa and Larry Moody. Some of the questions that we will deal with are:

How can you be sure there really is a God?

What basis is there for believing in miracles?

The Bible is full of errors and myths – how can you believe it?

If God is good, why do evil and suffering exist?

Isn’t it narrow-minded to claim that Christ is the only way to God?

How can Christianity be true when its adherents are so phony and hypocritical?

We will meet the first and third Wednesday of each month, starting November 4 and continuing into May or June. We meet at the home of Pastor Bennett, 34 Monument Drive, Stafford 22554 from 7:30 to 9:00 pm. Our goal is to help us be faithful ambassadors for Christ in a skeptical world, supporting one another in prayer, and enjoying fellowship together. If you can only make an occasional meeting, that’s okay, but you will need a copy of the book we’re using.

The book is available for purchase on the Internet. The best price I have found is $10.99 at http://www.christianbook.com/Christian/Books/product?item_no=63387

You can also read the book online for free at http://books.google.com/books?id=9ep5r973XwIC&dq=I’m+Glad+You+Asked+Boa&printsec=frontcover&source=bl&ots=kd4enMXlQB&sig=uosEO3xWIeDtQIfn1915KQor1Tw&hl=en&ei=32DoSvrVLoetlAfmha2KCA&sa=X&oi=book_result&ct=result&resnum=2&ved=0CBQQ6AEwAQ#v=onepage&q=&f=false

Dear Crossroads,

Apologetics (the study of how to defend our faith with the world around us) is gaining increasing attention these days, as the non-Christian becomes bolder in its assaults on Christianity and as some church-goers are migrating away from Christianity. The following link is to an announcement of a FREE seminar on apologetics offered by the C. S. Lewis Institute this Friday evening and Saturday morning at McLean Presbyterian Church (PCA). The title of the seminar is “How Accurate Is The Bible” and the speaker is Dr. Ken Boa. He will address some of the following questions:

Isn’t the Bible full of contradictions and errors?

The Bible has been copied and translated so many times-hasn’t this process led to errors?

How can you be sure that the Bible is the same now as when it was written?

Didn’t the church arbitrarily decide which books should be included in the Bible and which books should be rejected?

So many people have different interpretations of the Bible – what makes you think that yours is correct?

How can you place your faith in a book that condones genocide and slavery?

Doesn’t the Bible make a number of claims that are scientifically inaccurate?

Walking by the Spirit: The Helper We Barely Know. Before Jesus ascended to heaven, he promised Christians that he would send the Holy Spirit to be our Helper dwelling within our hearts. However, many Christians are unaware or confused about what the Spirit is to do in our lives. The Bible promises that if we “live by the Spirit” we will not carry out the desires of our sinful nature. That’s encouraging, but what does it mean to “live by the Spirit?” This Bible-based class will discuss the Holy Spirit’s nature and work in our lives and its practical implications. Taught by Chris Bennett in Room 100.

Prayer Warriors. This “class” is a time for Crossroads people to gather and pray together. A handout is provided each week to guide us in praising God and praying for Crossroads, personal needs, and the needs of Christians throughout the world. You can come and pray aloud with us, or just sit and pray along silently as others pray. Please come join ordinary folks in approaching our extraordinarily gracious God who promises that he delights when his people pray. Led by Chris Luther in Room 121.

Exploring Crossroads. This class is for those who would like to learn more about our church, our beliefs, and the basis for our beliefs. Through searching the Bible and interactive discussion, the participants gain a deeper understanding of the Christian life and how we seek to live it at Crossroads. This class is required for youth and adults who wish to join our church. Taught by Don Sampson in Room 102.

Friendship Class (Special Needs). Friendship Class (Special Needs). Helping Each Other – Offers concrete ideas on how to help others – how to serve people who are close to us, people who are sad, people others don’t like, and people who are in trouble. Taught by a group teacher and one adult/teen mentor for each student in Room 104.

We are excited about our new classes and hope you will be able to join us and share our enthusiasm.

Classes for Adults/Teens

Acts: The Blossoming of the Church. You thought you knew what the Church was all about, but much of what we “know” is informed more by our culture than by God’s Word. This class will go back to the beginning of the New Testament Church to discover God’s design for this dynamic, world-changing, life-changing entity. Join us for a Bible-based discussion, so that you may learn again for the first time what we are to be as an extension of Jesus Christ’s work in the world. Taught by Chris Bennett in Room 113.

The Bookends of the Christian Life. Utilizing the book by Jerry Bridges and Bob Bevington, the class will answer questions like:

How can I overcome persistent guilt? How can I deal with the pressure to measure up? Where can I find the motivation it takes to grow? How can I live the Christian life with both my head and my heart? How can I be sure God loves me? How can I change in an authentic and lasting way?

So what are the bookends of the Christian life? Justification and Sanctification. In continuing their goal to re-center the church at large onto the historic gospel of Jesus Christ, Bridges and Bevington will guide us in the practical implications of the gospel, so that believers and seekers alike can understand these two keys to a genuine Christian life. Taught by Aaron Root in Room 100.

Led by Fritz Thornton in Room 121.

Friendship Class (Special Needs). The Spirit, Our Helper – This class is a Bible and activity-based study of the role of the Holy Spirit in our lives as a Teacher, Helper, and Friend. Taught by a group teacher and one adult/teen mentor for each student in Room 104.
