Stafford Care Group – New Series Started November 4, 2009

The Stafford Care Group started a new series on Wednesday, November 4, and everyone is invited.  Our topic will be how to answer the questions that non-Christians friends and acquaintances ask us.  “How often have you been overwhelmed by an onslaught of tough objections as you attempted to communicate the message of Christianity to your non-Christian friends?”  It’s a common experience for all of us.  They ask honest, sincere questions and we find ourselves unprepared to answer them.  What could have been an opportunity to introduce them to Christ is turned into an awkward experience that leaves them uninformed and us embarrassed.

We will be using the book, I’m Glad You Asked, by Ken Boa and Larry Moody.  Some of the questions that we will deal with are:

  • How can you be sure there really is a God?
  • What basis is there for believing in miracles?
  • The Bible is full of errors and myths – how can you believe it?
  • If God is good, why do evil and suffering exist?
  • Isn’t it narrow-minded to claim that Christ is the only way to God?
  • How can Christianity be true when its adherents are so phony and hypocritical?

We will meet the first and third Wednesday of each month, starting November 4 and continuing into May or June.  We meet at the home of Pastor Bennett, 34 Monument Drive, Stafford 22554 from 7:30 to 9:00 pm.  Our goal is to help us be faithful ambassadors for Christ in a skeptical world, supporting one another in prayer, and enjoying fellowship together.  If you can only make an occasional meeting, that’s okay, but you will need a copy of the book we’re using.

The book is available for purchase on the Internet.  The best price I have found is $10.99 at http://www.christianbook.com/Christian/Books/product?item_no=63387

You can also read the book online for free at http://books.google.com/books?id=9ep5r973XwIC&dq=I’m+Glad+You+Asked+Boa&printsec=frontcover&source=bl&ots=kd4enMXlQB&sig=uosEO3xWIeDtQIfn1915KQor1Tw&hl=en&ei=32DoSvrVLoetlAfmha2KCA&sa=X&oi=book_result&ct=result&resnum=2&ved=0CBQQ6AEwAQ#v=onepage&q=&f=false

Free Seminar on Apologetics

Dear Crossroads,

Apologetics (the study of how to defend our faith with the world around us) is gaining increasing attention these days, as the non-Christian becomes bolder in its assaults on Christianity and as some church-goers are migrating away from Christianity.  The following link is to an announcement of a FREE seminar on apologetics offered by the C. S. Lewis Institute this Friday evening and Saturday morning at McLean Presbyterian Church (PCA).  The title of the seminar is “How Accurate Is The Bible” and the speaker is Dr. Ken Boa.  He will address some of the following questions:

  • Isn’t the Bible full of contradictions and errors?
  • The Bible has been copied and translated so many times-hasn’t this process led to errors?
  • How can you be sure that the Bible is the same now as when it was written?
  • Didn’t the church arbitrarily decide which books should be included in the Bible and which books should be rejected?
  • So many people have different interpretations of the Bible – what makes you think that yours is correct?
  • How can you place your faith in a book that condones genocide and slavery?
  • Doesn’t the Bible make a number of claims that are scientifically inaccurate?
