Crossroads – Mercy Fund

Obedient to Christ, Crossroads desires to minister to people in need.  To that end, we have always set money aside for ministry to people in need, both inside and outside the congregation.  This year, to emphasize the singular purpose of this ministry, we have decided to give this ministry its own fund.  Donations can be made directly to the mercy fund as the Spirit leads.  Simply make out the check to “Crossroads PCA” with “Mercy Fund” in the memo line, and the funds will be deposited accordingly.  Quarterly, we will publish the Mercy Ministry fund amount in the church bulletin, along with the balances in the general account and the building fund.  For more information about our Mercy Ministry, contact Bill Tapolcai at 703-730-9315 or email: william.tapolcai@uspto.gov.

The Battle Belongs to the Lord

In March, we were informed that an anonymous donor has pledged up to $100,000 to the Crossroads Building Fund between March 26th and December 31st!  He she would like to match all contributions made to the Building Fund, dollar-for-dollar, in order to raise a total of up to $200,000 by the end of this year.

Please note “Building Fund” on the memo line on your check or select the Building Fund option when donating online through eGive.  When giving by check, you may designate a portion of your donation for the Building Fund; i.e., it is not necessary to write separate checks.

The elders want to remind everyone that offerings to the Building Fund should be over and above tithes to the General Fund.

Praise God, from Whom all blessing flow!

Youth Ski Retreat

March 5-7 Our Youth Ski Retreat spent  a wonderful weekend at Timberline Ski Resort in Canaan Valley, WV.

We had two days of skiing in great snow conditions they have had over 250 inches of snow this year, all the trails were open. The sun shone the whole weekend.

We stayed at Canaan Valley Baptist Church and had a lot of fun getting to know each other better and sharing God’s word.  Andrea Williams and Marcy Naylor (plus a couple of other adults) prepared some great meals for us. and Dave Williams kept us on track with a fun-filled schedule.

Music Notes Spring 2010

Like the psalmist who declared, “Sing a new song to the Lord!”, we too enjoy learning new songs together at Crossroads.  But often it is hard to truly worship when the song is unfamiliar.  Sometimes we will sing new songs during the offertory and ask you to sing along as it becomes comfortable.  However, some of you might like to know what songs the praise team is preparing for corporate worship ahead of time, so that you can add them to your personal devotions.  Our overall desire is that you come prepared to worship our God together, with one voice.   Here are the new songs for our current sermon series on I Samuel.

By Faith                                  by Keith and Kristyn Getty and Stuart Townsend.  As we consider I Samuel together under Don’s teaching, we are reminded that others have walked the path of faith before us, like David, who was a “man after God’s own heart.”  (Hebrews 11)

Glorious and Mighty          by Joel Sczebel, Todd Twining, and Bob Kauflin.  There’s just nothing better than worshipping God together through the Psalms.  Here the psalmist shows us how to sing of God’s glory and might and beauty. (Psalm 96)

The Lord Is                             by Pat Sczebel and Bob Kauflin.    As we study together David’s life, we see a man with real nitty-gritty life problems (not unlike you and I!), who nonetheless relied on God to lead him and give him rest. (Psalm 23)

Come People of the Risen King       by Keith and Kristyn Getty and Stuart Townsend.  Preparing our hearts to celebrate Easter, we are reminded of Christ’s unmistakable power over sin and death as He was raised to new life.  In corporate worship, we come as people of the risen King, indeed.

These and other songs are available for download at iTunes via Crossroads Worship Spring 2010.  For more information please contact Linda at lindaneice@crossroadspca.net.

Mission Outreach – Meals for the Hilda Barg Homeless Shelter

Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink… (Matthew 25: 34-35, NIV)

As part of our mission outreach, this month we are providing meals to the guests at The Hilda Barg Homeless Prevention Center in Dale City.  Thanks be to God for a great opportunity to serve!  We are preparing and serving meals March 17 and 18.  We are also dining with the guests in the evenings.  For more information, contact Don Willsher at 703-794-9726 or Colin Dunn at 571-213-5686.

For answers to these and many other questions prayerfully consider the upcoming class about kingdom focused Prayer!

Ephesians 3:14–19

14 For this reason I bow my knees before the Father, 15f rom whom every family in heaven and on earth is named, 16 that according to the riches of his glory he may grant you to be strengthened with power through his Spirit in your inner being, 17 so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith—that you, being rooted and grounded in love, 18 may have strength to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, 19 and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God. (ESV)

In this passage of Scripture we see the importance of godly love that surpasses knowledge. To obtain this love of Christ we need Christ to dwell in our hearts. To have Christ in our hearts we need to be strengthened with power through His Spirit in our inner being.   Bowing knees in prayer before the Father, we can ask Him to strengthen us with power through His Spirit in our inner being.

Crossroads desires that our fellowship of believers in Jesus Christ be strengthened in knowing the love of God so that we can grow in our love for others and increasingly make Christ known.

For the next quarter of Christian Education at Crossroads we will be offering one class for the teens and adults. “Kingdom Focused Prayer” will be led by Ruling Elder Fritz Thornton in Room 113.

The format of this class will include:

  • A hymn.
  • A devotional review of a passage of Holy Scripture.
  • Discussion of prayer and topics for prayer.
  • Prayer in smaller groups within the class.  (Note: some folks will pray out loud in the small groups and some may prefer to pray silently.)

Prayer is intimacy with our infinite and almighty God.  It is our desire that you will set your hearts on this goal of growing in the love of Christ and join us in this opportunity to learn about prayer and to pray together. Join us as we share guidance from God’s Word on prayer and pray boldly and specifically for His kingdom, including the needs of Crossroads.

 2.   Friendship Class (Special Needs).  God, Our Father – Focuses on the Old Testament to learn of God’s creation, God’s relationship with his people, and God’s promise to send a Savior.  Taught by a group teacher and one adult/teen mentor for each student in Room 104.
