Welcome Pastor Alex Young

We are exited to Welcome our new Pastor, Alex Young, and his family to Crossroads.

Alex grew up in a Christian home in North Canton, Ohio, and is grateful not to remember a day he did not know the Lord or desire to live for Him. He has grown in his own faith and has seen God at work in others through various ministries, including Young Life, Stephen Ministry, and Good Works (in Athens, Ohio). His calling to serve in pastoral ministry was confirmed while serving as an intern at Bethesda Evangelical Church in St. Louis. Alex is a graduate of Grove City College and Covenant Theological Seminary. Prior to his call to serve at Crossroads, Alex served as an associate pastor in NW Ohio, where he met and married his wonderful wife, Jenny. Alex and Jenny have two precious little girls: Joanna and Eden. Alex has delighted in getting to know the Crossroads church family so far, and is grateful to God for the opportunity to serve as our pastor.

Sunday Worship Service Canceled – Sunday, January 31st

Dear saints,
In view of the predicted  snowfall of 4-8″ tomorrow, with most of it coming during the morning, the Session has decided to cancel Crossroads’ worship service, both on-line and in-person. We hope everyone stays safe, warm, and toasty.
Your safety is of great importance to us.
For the Session,
Pastor Brian

New Sermon Series on Philippians

Pastor Brian will be starting a new Sermon Series on Philippians on Sunday, June 14.
Philippians is a joyful letter, which is something the church needs to hear right now. Paul was writing from prison, yet joy wells up from his heart throughout this letter. We will learn the secret of Paul’s joy as we plumb the depths of his mind and thinking. We will learn how to have our own joy in the midst of our suffering. Paul’s focus was on Jesus Christ and a deep desire to know Him better. Paul wanted to think like Jesus thought and to love like Jesus loved. Our goal will be the same. The desires of our minds and hearts should be to be like Jesus’ mind and heart. May the Lord graciously prepare our minds and hearts through the power of the Holy Spirit to receive this letter with joy and be filled with Jesus’ joy.

We Are Open for Worship

Dear Crossroads Family,

Under the restrictions below, we are opening the church for in-person worship.

We will continue to live-stream the service for the foreseeable future.  If anyone feels it is safer to worship at home, we want you to feel free to do so.

We will adhere to the government’s mandatory requirements for religious services. Our guidelines are addressed below:

  1. Please use the main door to the church, which we will prop open.
  2. Out of consideration for everyone, please wear a mask from the time you enter the building until you leave.  (Worship leaders and praise band singers may be unmasked while performing their duties.)
  3. We ask that you maintain social distance of six feet.  We will have seating arranged to provide for social distancing.
  4. We ask that you sit together as a family.
  5. Please print and bring your own bulletins.
  6. We will not pass the offering plates; offering can be given in the plates as you depart, at the end of the service.
  7. We will not staff the Nursery.
  8. We encourage you to fellowship outside after the service, weather permitting.
  9. If you are sick or if you have come in contact with someone who is or was contagious with COVID 19, please stay home until it is safe for you to join us.
As restrictions loosen, we will tailor these guidelines accordingly.
Also, please know that we had the church professionally cleaned.

In His Grip,

Crossroads Session and Deacons

GARP Events Happening July 20-22, 2019

GARP (German-American-Russian Partnership) is happening beginning this week!  The whole Crossroads Church family can participate in three days of events.

SATURDAY, July 20, will be a one day Vacation Bible School at the church from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with a concluding program.  Lunch will be provided for all children in VBS and for all the volunteers.   Just prior to the program, a dinner will be provided for the participating VBS children, for their families that turn out to watch the program, and for the volunteers and workers that helped make the VBS experience possible.  So sign-up your children and grandchildren and encourage the children of your neighborhood to come.  Meet our Russian and German guests as they help us to carry out the VBS curriculum.  Please email Sarah Kiihne if you want to sign up children for VBS and/or if you want to serve as a volunteer worker.  Her email is LookinToTheCross@hotmail.com.
SUNDAY, July 21, will be a great day with worship at church at 10:30 a.m.  During the service we will hear words of greeting from the Russians and the Germans.  Both groups will share their musical skills with us.
We will also enjoy our annual picnic at Leesylvania State park from 4:00 p.m. to dusk at Picnic Shelter #4 – Lee’s Landing (Hexagonal Shelter).  Entrance to the park is $10 per car, so car pool if you can.  Each family should bring a side dish OR salad AND a dessert that will serve 12 people.  The church will provide two different meat choices as well as lemonade and water.  A special Fife and Drum Corps will perform for our enjoyment.  Bring picnic-type games, lawn chairs, and picnic blankets.  This will be a great opportunity to get to know our Russian and German guests. (On a side note if you shop at REI this week then you will receive a free one time entry into any VA State Park, which you could use on Saturday for the Church Picnic).
MONDAY, July 22, is our GARP work project day.  Join our 18 Christian brothers and sisters from Russia and Germany as we work together at Leesylvania State Park, we will be doing a beach clean up project from 9:00 a.m. to about 3:00 p.m. Please meet at the Visitors Center at 9:00 a.m. As you enter the park let them know you are there to volunteer, Ahmed and Diana are the park volunteer coordinators, you do not have to pay to park. Our Monday work project has changed! Here are the new details. Lunch will be provided at the work site, and there will be a dinner at the church at 6:30 p.m. for all of those who worked on our teams in the park.  Please email Andrew Detwiler if you are able to participate and if you have questions.  His email is anddet@gmail.com.
We hope to see the whole church participate in the above GARP events!
