Movie Night – Friday, January 4th

Crossroads,

You are invited to come and enjoy a movie together at the Roller’s Theatre this Friday, January 4th.

We will be watching Of Gods and Men, rated PG-13.

Here is a short summary of this thought-provoking film:

“Eight French Christian monks live in harmony with their Muslim brothers in a monastery perched in the mountains of North Africa in the 1990s. When a crew of foreign workers is massacred by an Islamic fundamentalist group, fear sweeps though the region. The army offers them protection, but the monks refuse. Should they leave? Despite the growing menace in their midst, they slowly realize that they have no choice but to stay… come what may. This film is loosely based on the life of the Cistercian monks of Tibhirine in Algeria, from 1993 until their kidnapping in 1996.” — (C) Sony Pictures Classics

Movie Night – Friday, December 7th

Our Creator God has made us to create, for his glory and our neighbor’s good. Let’s get together and see what others have created.

Our next movie night is December 7th, 7 pm at the Roller’s Theater.

We’ll be watching “Orphans of the Firestorm” a Japanese animated PG film chosen by none other that our friends Yosuke and Shoko Irie.

Roger Ebert writes that this film is “an emotional experience so powerful that it forces a rethinking of animation…it belongs on any list of the greatest war films ever made.” TV Guide’s Movie Guide rated it

Here is a short summary: “As the Empire of the Sun crumbles upon itself and a rain of firebombs falls upon Japan, the final death march of a nation is echoed in millions of smaller tragedies. This is the story of Seita and his younger sister Setsuko, two children…forced to fend for themselves in the after math of fires that swept entire cities from the face of the earth, their doomed struggle is both a tribute to the human spirit and the stuff of nightmares.”

If you want tickets, send Tim Carroll your RSVP at timcarroll@crossroadspca.net
See you at the theater!

Crossroads Community Outreach Day – Saturday, November 17th

Crossroads,

Would you like to better know your neighbors? Would you like your neighbors to know Jesus Christ? This Saturday, November 17th, is Community Relational Outreach Day, and we will be pursuing both of these goals.

We’ll send out teams of three or four into the surrounding neighborhoods to simply tell our neighbors about Crossroads, invite them to Pie & Praise, and ask them if there’s any way we can pray for them. No training is needed, only a soul stirred by Christ’s love, willing feet and words of invitation.

We will meet at 1 p.m. at the Dumfries Boys and Girls Club in the church office. The church office is located on the main floor by the staircase. There will be a brief time of orientation and prayer prior to setting out into surrounding neighborhoods. We should all be done between 2:30 and 3:30.

Crossroads Annual Pie and Praise

Our Annual Pie and Praise event was a great evening of joyful thanksgiving.

We would like to thank everyone for all of their hard work that helped to make this event a success.

Youth Your Serve Event – Saturday, November 10th

Crossroads’ Youth are planning a Your Serve Work Day with Habitat for Humanity 1-3p.m.

We will meet at the Dumfries Boys and Girls Club at 1p.m.

Why: To raise money for Habitat for Humanity, raise awareness of the Boys and Girls Club, and let folks know that Crossroads is here to make an impact!

RSVP by 8 Nov to Dawn Assadourian at 254-394-3974 or Chuck at 254-220-2664 (text or call)
